Description & Operation: Introduction
The shift interlock system locks the shift lever when the ignition switch is turned off in order to prevent the shift lever position and the gear position from becoming mismatched. The shift lock mechanism consists of a shift lock solenoid, shift lock ECU, stopper plate, and a lock plate that is integrated with lever No. 2 in gearshift mechanism. See Fig 1.
A shift lock override button that can manually cancel the shift lock mechanism has been provided. If the shift lock mechanism cannot be unlocked due to a malfunction in the shift lock solenoid or a drained battery, a flat-blade screwdriver or an equivalent tool may be used to press the shift lock override button, which presses the stopper via a link, which unlocks the lock plate.
