Diagnosis & Repair

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Prius. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: After confirming DTC P1430, if Toyota hand-held tester is available, use hand-held tester to access CURRENT DATA to confirm vacuum sensor pressure. If vacuum sensor pressure is zero psi, HCLS circuit may be shorted. If vacuum sensor pressure is 18.85 psi (1.3 kg/cm2 ) or more, VC circuit may be open or shorted, HCLS circuit may be open or E2 circuit may be open. Using hand-held tester or scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data. Freeze frame data records engine conditions when malfunction is detected.

For diagnosis and repair procedure with Toyota Hand-held tester or an Enhanced OBD II scan tool, see Fig 1.

For diagnosis and repair procedure with OBD II scan tool (Non Enhanced), see Fig 2.

For vacuum sensor circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 3. Vacuum sensor is located at passenger's side front corner of the engine, see Fig 4.

For ECM location, see Figure. For ECM connector terminal view, see Figure.

For testing of systems or components, see SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 4-CYLINDER article. For removal and installation of components, see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - 4-CYLINDER article.
