Exhaust Manifold: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  3. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 compression springs.

    2. Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly from the 2 exhaust pipe supports, (for Torsion beam type suspension)
    3. Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly from the 3 exhaust pipe supports, (for Double wishbone type suspension)
    4. Remove the 2 gaskets.
  6. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 compression springs.
    3. Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly from the 3 exhaust pipe supports.
    4. Remove the 2 gaskets.

  7. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector, (for 2WD)
    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 compression springs and front exhaust pipe assembly.
    3. Remove the gasket from the exhaust manifold.

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 exhaust manifold heat insulator.
  9. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR  (See REMOVAL )

  10. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and manifold stay.

  11. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and No. 2 manifold stay.

  12. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 nuts and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.
    2. Remove the gasket.

  13. REMOVE NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 exhaust manifold heat insulator.

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 MANIFOLD CONVERTER INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 manifold converter insulator.
