NTC-2A: Checking Speed Control On/Off Switch

NOTE: Perform NTC-1A: CHECKING SPEED CONTROL OPERATION  before proceeding.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to step  6 . If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect 2-pin ON/OFF/SET switch connector (located behind speed control ON/OFF/SET switch). Inspect connectors. Clean or repair as necessary. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control ON/OFF/SET switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 2-pin RESUME/CANCEL/COAST switch connector (located behind speed control RESUME/CANCEL/COAST switch). Inspect connectors. Clean or repair as necessary. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace speed control RESUME/CANCEL/COAST switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect clockspring 5-pin connector located underneath steering column. Inspect connectors. Clean or repair as necessary. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace clockspring. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is 4 volts or less, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect connectors. Clean or repair as necessary. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of speed control switch signal circuit between PCM connector terminal No. 41 (Red/Light Green wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5100 ohms, repair short to ground on speed control switch signal circuit (Red/Light Green wire). Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is 5100 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Disconnect 2-pin speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector (located behind speed control ON/OFF/SET switch). Inspect connectors. Clean or repair as necessary. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage of speed control switch signal circuit between 2-pin speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector (Red/Light Green wire) and ground. If voltage is more than 6 volts, repair speed control switch circuit (Red/Light Green wire) for short to voltage. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is less than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4-6 volts, repair open or high resistance in speed control switch signal circuit. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Connect a jumper wire between ground and 2-pin speed control ON/OFF/SET switch connector Red/Light Green wire. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read speed control switch voltage. If voltage is less than one volt, replace speed control ON/OFF/SET switch. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is one volt or more, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A: SPEED CONTROL VERIFICATION  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
