Instrument Cluster Test 1A - Identifying Instrument Cluster Problems

NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS . Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE .

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO/MECHANICAL cluster. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS . If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If scan tool displays ROM TEST FAILURE, recalibrate gauges using scan tool. If scan tool displays RAM TEST FAILURE, replace instrument cluster circuit board and recalibrate gauges. If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
If scan tool displays BODY COMPUTER ODOMETER FAILURE, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . If scan tool displays NO MESSAGES FROM BCM, NO MESSAGES FROM PCM or NO MESSAGES FROM TCM, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS . Go to next step.
Using scan tool, actuate gauges. If an individual gauge fails to operate, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1B . Identify problem(s) listed in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table and perform indicated test(s).

⁽¹⁾	Using scan tool, read status of trip reset button switch (open or closed), and depress trip reset button. If status of trip reset button does not change, replace Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC).
