Chime Inoperative With Key In Ignition & Driver Door Open

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Open Driver Door. Using the DRBIII(R), read DR DOOR AJAR SW state. Does the DRBIII(R) display DR DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED? If yes, go to next step. If no, perform appropriate door ajar test under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Ignition Switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Ignition Switch harness connector terminal No. 6. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in Ignition Switch Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect CTM C1 harness connector. Measure resistance between CTM C1 harness connector terminal No. 19 and Ignition Switch harness connector terminal No. 5. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in Key-In Ignition Switch Sense circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Reconnect CTM C1 harness connector. Insert key in Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder. Measure resistance between Ignition Switch terminals No. 5 and 6 (component side). Is resistance less than 20 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, check the Ignition Lock Cylinder for damage. Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder if damaged. If Ignition Lock Cylinder is okay, replace Ignition Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace CTM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
