Pcm Messages Not Received
When Monitored:
- With ignition on.
Set Condition:
- When CTM does not receive any messages from PCM.
Possible Causes:
- PCM messages not received.
- Attempt to communicate with PCM.
- PCI Bus circuit open.
- PCM.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE:
Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false DTCs or error messages may occur.
NOTE:
For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS
. For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
. For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
.
Testing:
- Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), select BODY COMPUTER, SYSTEM TESTS, then PCM MONITOR. Does the DRBIII(R) display PCM ACTIVE ON THE BUS? If yes, replace CTM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Using the DRBIII(R), attempt to communicate with PCM. Is DRBIII(R) able to communicate with the PCM? If yes, go to next step. If no, refer to appropriate COMMUNICATION symptom for diagnosis. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C3 harness connector. Connect the Diagnostic Junction Port Tester (8339) to the diagnostic Junction Port. Do not connect the tester to the DRBIII(R). Measure resistance of the PCI Bus circuit between the diagnostic Junction Port tester (diagnostic Junction Port terminal No. 6) and the PCM C3 harness connector terminal No. 30. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace PCM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, repair open in the PCI Bus circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE:
Diagnostic Junction Port and DLC are both Black 16-pin connectors located under left side of instrument panel. However, all wires connected to Diagnostic Junction Port are Violet/Yellow.
