High Beam Indicator Output Open

When Monitored:

Set Condition:

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false DTCs or error messages may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase CTM DTCs. Cycle ignition off, then on. Using the DRBIII(R), read CTM DTCs. Does this DTC reset? If yes, go to next step. If no, the condition is not present at this time. Monitor DRBIII(R) parameters while wiggling the related wiring harness. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that may apply. Visually inspect related wiring harness and connector terminals.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the CTM C1 harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and CTM C1 harness connector terminal No. 18. Observe High Beam indicator. Does High Beam indicator illuminate? If yes, replace CTM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect Instrument Cluster C2 harness connector. Measure resistance between CTM C1 harness connector terminal No. 18 and Instrument Cluster C2 harness connector terminal No. 9. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in High Beam Indicator Driver circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and Instrument Cluster C2 harness connector terminal No. 9. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair Indicator Driver circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  5. Remove Instrument Cluster. Inspect High Beam Indicator Bulb. Is the High Beam Indicator Bulb open? If yes, replace High Beam Indicator Bulb. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace Instrument Cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
