A/C Status Indicator Flashing; EBL Status Indicator Flashing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Electric Back Light (EBL) may also be referred to as rear window defogger.
NOTE:
All symptoms listed are diagnosed using this test procedure.
Possible Causes:
- A/C Cool down Test needs to be run.
- HVAC Door Recalibration needs to be run.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE:
Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE:
For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS

Testing:
- Turn ignition on. Which status indicator is flashing? A/C status indicator, go to next step. EBL status indicator, go to step 3 .
- Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Ensure work area ambient temperature is more than 70°F (21.1°C) and Evaporator temperature is more than 65°F (18.3°C) before testing A/C system operation. Start the engine. Turn the Blower Control to high speed. Using the DRBIII(R), select HVAC, SYSTEM TESTS, then actuate A/C Cool down Test. Does the DRBIII(R) display COOL DOWN TEST PASSED? If yes, test is complete. If no, perform appropriate DTC or symptom test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS and SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION .

If yes, test is complete. If no, perform appropriate DTC or symptom test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS and SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION .
NOTE:
The A/C status indicator can flash at 2 different rates, twice per second (fast rate) when indicating that A/C Cool down Test needs to be run, and once every 2 seconds (slow rate) when indicating A/C Cool down Test is in progress. When the A/C status indicator is flashing, it will not indicate A/C operating state. However, the A/C switch will continue to function normally. When the A/C status indicator is flashing, the EBL status indicator will not function. However, the EBL switch will continue to function normally.
