Test H: Doors Do Not Lock/Unlock Using Remote Transmitter
- Verify doors lock and unlock using door lock control switches. If all doors lock and unlock properly, go to next step. If doors do not lock and unlock properly, diagnose problem by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table.
- Connect NGS tester to DLC located below instrument panel. Retrieve and record continuous GEM DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform self-test diagnostics for GEM. If DTC B2425 was not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2425 was retrieved, go to TEST I: KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE TRANSMITTER OUT OF SYNCHRONIZATION .
- Press each button on remote transmitter(s) while standing 10 feet (3 m) away from vehicle. If system does not respond appropriately with each button pressed, go to next step. If system responds appropriately with each button pressed, system is okay at this time.
- Stand next to, or sit in vehicle. Press each button on remote transmitter No. 1. If system does not respond to all buttons pressed on remote transmitter No. 1, go to next step. If system responds to all buttons pressed on remote transmitter No. 1, go to step 6 .
- Stand next to, or sit in vehicle. Press each button on remote transmitter No. 2. If system responds to all buttons pressed on remote transmitter No. 2, go to next step. If system does not respond to all buttons pressed on remote transmitter No. 2, reprogram transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) located under left side of instrument panel. Enter GEM, FUNCTION TESTS, TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA menu. If at least one remote transmitter stored and displayed next to TIC 1, go to next step. If no remote transmitter stored and displayed next to TIC 1, reprogram transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Monitor TIC/DATA. Press and release a remote transmitter UNLOCK button. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and/or LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match buttoned pressed, go to next step. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches buttoned pressed, go to step 9 .
- Repeat step 7 using second remote keyless entry. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and/or LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match buttoned pressed, go to next step. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches buttoned pressed, check battery of first remote transmitter. If battery is okay, replace remote transmitter. Program transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Using NGS tester, access FUNCTION TEST transmitter TIC/DATA using recorded alpha-numeric codes from step 7 . If TIC RECEIVED matches a TIC RECORDED in step 7) , go to next step. If TIC RECEIVED does not match any TICs RECORDED in step 7) , program transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Monitor remote transmitter TIC/DATA. If each button pressed on remote transmitter creates expected LAST DATA RECEIVED output, go to next step. If each button pressed on remote transmitter does not create expected LAST DATA RECEIVED output, program transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Check for corrosion, damaged or pushed out pins. Repair as necessary. Reconnect all GEM connectors. Ensure all connectors are seated correctly. Recheck system operation. If concern still exists, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is okay at this time.
NOTE:
If vehicle is within a half-mile or radio or TV towers, the operating distance of remote transmitter may be reduced.
