Test L-1: FOGLIGHTS Inoperative

  1. Check headlight operation. If problem exists, diagnose headlight concern. See SYMPTOM TEST INDEX  table. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Check input signal from foglight switch. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If input signal test shows a fault, check foglight switch circuit. See TEST O-5: FOGLIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK  under CIRCUIT TESTS. If input signal test is okay, go to next step.
  3. Remove foglight relay from engine compartment relay box. See Figure . Check continuity between foglight relay terminals No. 1 and 3. See Figure . Continuity should exist. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to foglight relay terminal No. 1 and ground foglight relay terminal No. 3. Check continuity between foglight relay terminals No. 4 and 5. Continuity should exist. If continuity is not as specified, replace foglight relay and retest fog lights. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and foglight relay connector terminals No. 1 and 4. See Figure . If battery voltage exists at both terminals, go to step  6 . If battery voltage does not exist at one or both terminals, go to next step.
  5. Check foglight relay connector terminals for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check White/Green wires between engine compartment relay box fuse No. 2 (15-amp) and foglight relay connector terminals No. 1 and 4. Check White wires between battery and engine compartment relay box fuse No. 2 (15-amp). Repair connector or appropriate wire(s) as necessary and retest foglight operation.
  6. Check foglight relay connector and front-ECU connector A-09X for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check for open or short in Gray wire between foglight relay connector terminal No. 3 and front-ECU connector A-09X terminal No. 13. See Figure and Figure . If problem exists, repair connector or Gray wire as necessary and retest foglight operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Check foglight connectors and combination meter 16-pin connector C-43 (combination meter) for loose, damaged and corroded terminals. See Figure . Check for open or short in Red/White wire between foglight relay connector terminal No. 5 and left foglight. Check for open or short in Red/Green wire between foglight relay connector terminal No. 5 and combination meter connector C-43 terminal No. 13 and right foglight. If problem exists, repair connector or appropriate wire as necessary and retest foglight operation. If problem does not exist, replace front-ECU or ETACS-ECU and retest foglight operation.
