VTSS Test 1A - Identifying Vehicle Theft Security System Problems

NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool select SYSTEM MONITORS, then CCD BUS TEST. Scan tool performs a CCD bus test. If scan tool is blank, displays a CCD bus failure message or displays NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS  . If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step.
  2. Select BODY SYSTEM then VTSS and read Central Timer Module (CTM) DTCs. If any VTSS DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate procedure. See VTSS DTC table. If no VTSS DTCs are displayed, go to next step.

    DOOR LOCK SWITCH FAILURE VTSS TEST 6A 
    EEPROM CHECKSUM FAILURE Replace CTM
    INTERNAL ROM TEST FAILURE Replace CTM
  3. Select VTSS then MONITORS. If scan tool displays, OK TO RUN, NOT OK TO ARM, PCM has not recorded more than 20 starts. Start engine 20 times and retest. If message does not change to OK TO ARM, replace PCM. If message changes to OK TO ARM, go to next step.
  4. Press horn button. If horn does not sound, go to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article in this Section. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, actuate horn. If horn does not sound, go to VTSS TEST 7A  . If horn sounds, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, actuate headlights. If headlights do not flash, go to VTSS TEST 8A  . If headlights flash, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool, actuate VTSS light. If VTSS light does not flash, go to VTSS TEST 9A  . If VTSS light flashes, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, place VTSS in diagnostic mode and follow directions on screen. If TURN KEY TO ACCESS POSITION is not displayed, go to VTSS TEST 10A  . If NO RESPONSE after turning key to accessory position or TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION is displayed longer than 15 seconds, go to VTSS TEST 11A  .
  9. Remove key from ignition. Wait 2 seconds after performing each of the following actions. Open, then close both door. Operate power door lock switch to lock, then unlock position.
  10. Rotate key both directions in both doors. Horn should sound after each action. If horn does not sound, see VTSS SYMPTOM DIRECTORY table. If horn sounds, turn ignition on. If horn does not sound, go to VTSS TEST 10A.
