Compass/Mini-Trip Computer Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Possible Causes:
- Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit short to ground.
- Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit open.
- Ground circuit open.
- CMTC.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE:
Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE:
For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS

Testing:
- Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect Instrument Panel Junction Block Fuse No. 11 (10-amp). If fuse is open, replace fuse. Cycle ignition off, then on. Remove and inspect Fuse No. 11. Is the fuse open? If yes, repair Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Overhead Console harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on Overhead Console harness connector terminal No. 6. Is voltage more than 10.5 volts? If yes, to next step. If no, repair open in Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and Overhead Console harness connector terminal No. 12. Is resistance more than 5 ohms? If yes, repair open in Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace CMTC. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
