WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Front Wiper Switch (Multifunction Switch) harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between Multifunction Switch harness connector terminals No. 17 and 18. Turn ignition on. Does Front Wiper Motor operate? If yes, replace Multifunction Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Reconnect Multifunction Switch harness connector. Disconnect Front Wiper Motor harness connector. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, probe Front Wiper Motor harness connector terminal No. 4. Does test light illuminate brightly? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in Front Wiper Motor Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect Multifunction Switch harness connector. Measure resistance between Multifunction Switch harness connector terminal No. 17 and Front Wiper Motor harness connector terminal No. 5. Is resistance more than 5 ohms? If yes, repair open in Front Wiper Motor Low Driver (Speed) circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect Front Wiper Motor harness connector. Using 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe Multifunction Switch harness connector terminal No. 18. Does test light illuminate brightly? If no, go to next step. If yes, repair open in Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit. Check Instrument Panel Junction Block C8 Fuse No. 5 (20-amp). If fuse is open, check Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Reconnect Multifunction Switch harness connector. Disconnect Front Wiper Motor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe Front Wiper Motor harness connector terminal No. 5. Does test light illuminate brightly? If yes, replace Wiper Motor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, test is complete.
