Power Steering Pressure Switch System Test: Sentra

  1. Start engine. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 46 (Purple wire on 1.8L; Purple/White wire on 2.0L) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure . With steering wheel fully turned, voltage should be about zero volts. When steering wheel is not being turned, voltage should be about 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to step  5. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect power steering pressure switch harness connector. See Figure or Figure . On 1.8L models, go to next step. On 2.0L models, check continuity between ground and power steering pressure switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. On all models, disconnect ECM harness connector. Check continuity of Purple wire (1.8L) or Purple/White wire (2.0L) between power steering pressure switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 46. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check power steering pressure switch. See POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH . Replace, if necessary. If power steering pressure switch is okay, go to next step.
  5. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
