Fuel Level Sensor Unit: Removal
- Unscrew the fuel filler cap to release pressure inside the tank. See Figure
- Release fuel pressure from the fuel lines.NOTE: For fuel pressure release, see FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under FUEL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article, for Fuel Pressure, see CHECKING FUEL PRESSURE in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
- Remove the rear seat bottom. See illustration, see Figure .
- Remove the fuel pump inspection hole cover located under rear seat.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors. See Figure
.CAUTION: The tube can be removed when the tabs are completely depressed. Do not twist it more then necessary. Do not use any tools to remove the quick connector. Keep the connecting portion of the tube and the quick connector clean.
- Remove the quick connector. Put mating marks on tubes and connectors for correct installation. Hold the sides of the connector, push in the tabs and pull out the tube inserted in the retainer. See Figure .
- Remove the six screws. See Figure
.CAUTION: Do not bend the float arm during removal.
- Remove the fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump assembly. See Figure and Figure .
- Removing components of fuel pump, use the component view as a reference, see Figure . Remove flange of fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump. Using a screw driver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. See Figure .
- Push fuel level sensor flange. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. See Figure .
- Pull up the sensor. See Figure .
- Remove fuel filter from pump bracket. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. See Figure .
- Remove pressure regulator clip, then pull out pressure regulator. See Figure and Figure .
- Remove the fuel pump, then push down the fuel pump as shown in the figure. See Figure .
- Remove packing from fuel pump. See Figure .
- Remove the pump support rubber from the fuel pump. See Figure .
